2. Installation and Setup
Follow these step-by-step instructions to install and configure Gatekeeper in your Jira Cloud instance:
- Log in to your Jira Cloud instance as an administrator.
- Go to Apps, then click Explore Apps, and search for Gatekeeper Checklist and Reports.
- Click Get app or Start free trial.
- Once installed, access the app settings from the Jira top navigation bar under Apps → Gatekeeper Settings.
3. Core Features and Usage
3.1 Managing Issue Checklists
Within any Jira issue view, locate the Gatekeeper Checklist panel:
- Add Items: Type your task description and press Enter or click Add Item.
- Mark as Required: Toggle the REQUIRED badge on critical items. These items must be checked off before status transitions.
- Due Dates: Assign due dates to tasks. Overdue items will automatically display an OVERDUE warning badge.
- Reorder: Drag and drop items to organize your team workflow.
3.2 Dual-Layer Gatekeeper Protection
Gatekeeper enforces compliance at two independent levels:
- Layer 1 Native Board Blocking: When a user attempts to drag an issue to Done on a Jira board, the transition is visually blocked if mandatory REQUIRED checklist items are pending.
- Layer 2 Background Safety Net: If a status change bypasses board restrictions via REST API, mobile app, or bulk editing, Gatekeeper automatically reverts the issue status back to its previous state and logs an automated audit comment explaining the missing requirements.
3.3 Executive Compliance Analytics
To view real-time project quality metrics:
- Navigate to your Jira Project sidebar.
- Click Gatekeeper Analytics.
- Review scorecards including Overall Completion Rate, Mandatory Compliance Rate, Schedule Health, and Locked Issues Log.
3.4 Preset and Global Templates
- 1-Click Presets: Instantly load standard checklists for QA, Code Reviews, or Definition of Done (DoD).
- Global Templates: Administrators can create site-wide checklist templates in Apps → Gatekeeper Settings to standardize processes across all team projects.
